Texas Man Sentenced to 4,060 Years Imprisonment

At the request of prosecutors, the man, convicted of sexually assaulting three teenage girls, will serve his 40 life sentences consecutively. The jury took 90 minutes to convict. He’s eligible for parole in 3209.

Doesn’t a sentence like this throw into question the concept of proportionality of punishment? I mean, his life sentences after the first few are essentially pointless, right?
